Information About the Area

Location

The house is situated a short walk (150m) from Geriba beach on Rua Dos Namorados near to Pousada dos Tangaras (see map). This is at the quieter end of Geriba beach.

The main Geriba shopping area is a short walk away (5 minutes). Here you will find supermarkets and many types of shops.

For the main tourist shops and restaurants you will need to go to central Buzios which is a short drive or you can get a minibus for about $R2.

Recreation

Geriba is a very large sandy beach with shallow areas ideal for children. It also has waves that make it popular for surfing. Along the beach you will find bars that sell chilled coconuts, drinks etc. At the far end of the beach are a number of restaurants.

If you go beyond the far end of Geriba beach you reach Ferradurinha beach which is a lovely little beach with rocky outcrops all around. Here you can hire canoes to use in the bay and go to the isolated beach of Praia Dos Amores. It is also possible to arrange for snorkelling and diving.

Buzios has more than 20 other beautiful beaches which you can explore, all with their own unique characteristics.

In central Buzios you will find all the up market tourist shops and a large number of excellent restaurants of all kinds including French, Thai, Italian, Mexican and of course Brazilian. Many of the restaurants look out over the sea to give a superb setting in which to eat your meal. There are also many bars and coffee shops.

Buzios has a vibrant night life with several clubs of different styles.

From central Buzios you can take trips on schooners around the peninsula. You can also hire a buggy or a car and explore on your own. Water taxis are also available to travel from beach to beach.

Buzios has a Pete and Perry Dye designed 18 hole championship golf course.

The tourist information centre is in central Buzios.

Shops

Within a 5 minute walk of the house you can find supermarkets and shops that will provide for all of your needs.

Within 10 minutes walk is a fresh fish market near Manguinos beach. Here you can buy all sorts of fresh fish, lobster, prawns etc.

In central Buzios and the Ossos area you will find all the fashionable shops selling clothing, bikinis, souvenirs, jewelry, gem stones, art etc.

Transport

You can get from Geriba area to central Buzios by bus or by flagging down one of the many minibuses that pass that cost approximately $R2.

If you want to freely explore the area and you did not bring a car then you can hire a buggy or a car in central Buzios.

Buses are available to the nearby city of Cabo Frio and Rio de Janeiro.

Other Facilities

Buzios centre has several major banks (Banco do Brasil, Bradesco, Banco Real).

There is an internet cafe close to the house and many more in Buzios centre.

Equipment for SCUBA diving and snorkeling can be hired and instruction is available.
